Sandboni

We bring it all to the beach

Our buckets and chairs,

Our sunscreens and sand toys,

Our coolers and beers.

A day in the sun

To relax and to play,

To linger and laugh,

To swim and to wade.

Then the sandman comes

When night’s almost gone.

He lights his lamp

In impending dawn.

Back and forth in moonlight

On his tractor he rides.

He picks up the litter our lives leave behind,

And wipes our slates clean as the sun starts to rise.

We carry it all to the shore

Our worries our strife,

Our frustrations, our angers

The disappointments of life.

They hide behind smiles,

They bake in sand,

They rise up with waves

Then crash and expand

Then the sandman comes

When night’s almost gone.

He lights his lamp

In impending dawn.

Back and forth in moonlight

On his tractor he rides.

He picks up the litter our lives leave behind

And wipes our slates clean as the sun starts to rise.

Proposal at sunset,

Wedding on the beach.

Sandy toes and giggles,

Sandcastles by the sea.

Children splashing in the surf become

Couples walking at low tide.

Weathered woman in the shade

Watching decades fly by.

Then the sandman comes

When night’s almost gone.

He lights his lamp

In impending dawn.

Back and forth in moonlight

On his tractor he rides.

He picks up the memories our lives leave behind

And wipes years away as the sun starts to rise.
